The lead role in the UK-French co-production Earl Grey, directed by Ornella Pacchioni, will be played by French actress Kim Higelin.

Earl Grey is based on the 2022 book Londres a bien etre une city laide by Pacchioni. Candid Broads Productions in the UK and Master Movies in France are co-producing it.

The movie tells the tale of a French girl who lives in London and gives herself 24 hours to end her life on her 23rd birthday—that is, until she meets a mysterious stranger.

The stranger will be cast in the UK, and production is set to start this autumn.

Negotiations are in progress with worldwide sales agents.

Earl Grey, according to Pacchioni, “is about the quest for connection as a remedy for the discomfort of our time.” “It is crucial for me to portray loneliness on screen in order to validate the suffering that so many people experience today and to provide the necessary distance to separate from it through humour.”

“Not only are we Frenchwomen living in London, but Candid Broads’ true love has always been to nurture new talents and work with debut directors,” said Oriane Pick, founder of the organisation. “The connection to the film was immediate.”

“Ornella’s distinct approach to depicting mental health issues captivated us right away, and we are eager to join her on this thrilling adventure.”

Higelin’s performance in Vanessa Filho’s Consent earned her a nomination for the 2024 Cesar Awards’ Best Female Revelation category.
