Close-up at Cannes: Beatrice Bauwens of MPC on the flourishing VFX sector in France

Beatrice Bauwens, the studio head for Paris’ MPC and co-chair of France VFX, discusses Jacques Audiard, France’s VFX tax credit, and why wearing comfortable shoes is essential for surviving Cannes in this installment of Screen’s Cannes Close-Up interview series.

In addition to showing a number of films during the festival, such as Emilia Perez by Audiard and Marcello Mio by Christophe Honoré, Bauwens also wants to draw attention to the nation’s rapidly expanding visual effects sector.

“Cannes is a great opportunity to showcase France’s VFX capabilities,” according to Bauwens. “It’s good to be here and say, ‘Well, we have this really talented industry here in France, even though we’re not very known for our VFX.'”

With interviews scheduled to air throughout the event, Cannes Close-Up features prominent personalities from the global cinema industry sharing their own perspectives on their professions and navigating the Cannes cinema Festival.

Cannes Close-Up is sponsored by CNC in association with Film France.
