Karim Aïnouz and Ruben Östlund among the attendees at the Medienboard Reception and German Films

The German Films and Medienboard Reception took place in the garden of the Mondrian Hotel in Cannes on May 18, and among the attendees was Swedish filmmaker Ruben Östlund, who took home the Palme d’Or for his films “The Square” and “Triangle of Sadness.”

Östlund, who is at the Riviera resort to promote his most recent film, “The Entertainment System Is Down,” was joined by two producers from Sweden: Erik Hemmendorf of Plattform Produktion and Philippe Bober of Coproduction Office. This is an image of them.

Managing director Simone Baumann represented German Films, which is commemorating its 70th anniversary this year, at the event. Kirsten Niehuus, CEO of Medienboard, a film fund for the Berlin-Brandenburg region, was also in attendance. The reception’s media partner was Variety.

Karim Aïnouz, the director of “Motel Destino,” which is playing in Cannes’ Competition division this year, was one of the other guests in attendance. Match Factory Productions, a German company, co-produced it. Michael Weber and Viola Fügen represented them at the event.

Medienboard has awarded €300,000 to Aïnouz’s project “Rosebushpruning,” which is also produced in collaboration with Match Factory.

In the several areas of Cannes, fourteen German projects and co-productions have been chosen. These include “Grand Tour” by Miguel Gomes, which is another movie that Match Factory co-produced and is located in the Competition section.

The filmmaker of “Ghost Trail,” which opened Cannes Critics’ Week this year, Jonathan Millet, was also present. Medienboard provided backing for it.

Among those present were Matthias Schweighöfer, an actor from “Oppenheimer,” and producers Janine Jackowski and Jonas Dornbach of Komplizen Film, whose upcoming slate includes the Medienboard-funded Pablo Larraín film “Maria,” starring Angelina Jolie.

Directors Katja von Garnier and “Dau” director Ilya Khrzhanovsky were present.

Among the actors were Ruby O. Fee, Deleila Piasko (German comedy drama “The Zweiflers”), Philipp Hochmair, Max Befort, Maximilian Mundt, and Thomas Prenn (German comedy drama “Grosse Freiheit”)

Actor Veronica Ferres, who is also a producer with Construction Filmproduction, director and actor Aylin Tezel, and writer and producer Katja Eichinger were also present at the reception.
