Dolly De Leon, who starred in “Triangle of Sadness,” which wowed the Cannes Film Festival two years ago, has joined the cast of “Severino: The First Serial Killer,” an upcoming television series from CreaZion Studios in the Philippines.
Even though “Severino” is the most well-known project, the producer has a longer list of feature films in development.
“Severino” De Leon is a massive period thriller series that tells the story of Catholic priest Severino Mallari, who murdered 57 people in the country when it was under Spanish colonisation. The series director is Yam Laranas, who directed the horror movies “The Echo” and “The Road,” according to producers RJ Agustin and Real Florido. Dennis Trillo, who plays Severino, and Chai Fonacier are other members of the cast. August is when production is expected to begin.
The rotoscope animation film “The Fantabulous Badingger-Z,” which is based on the comic book “Badingger-Z and the Accla Assassin,” has Florido attached to the director’s chair and will collaborate with producer Kristine De Leon. The plot centres on a shy teenager who becomes weary of being teased at a military campus and discovers a mysterious particle in the woods that turns him into a superhuman, the indispensable protector against cyborg attackers and the mysterious mastermind causing havoc.
“Radikals,” a short film directed by Kristine De Leon, is shown at Critics Week this year. Carl Papa, who previously produced the animation film “Iti Mapukpukaw,” the Philippines’ most recent official Oscar entry, is also producing.
Separately, CreaZion has partnered with French producers Frank Priot of Ghost City Films and Avid Liongoreng of Rocket Sheep on an international co-production of the animation film “Zsa Zsa Zaturnah Ze Movee,” which is currently in production.
The narrative follows a lonely gay guy in Manila who decides to start over in the provinces with his niece and his beauty parlour. He gets struck in the head by an odd meteorite one evening while singing in the shower. He becomes a gorgeous superheroine as a result of the cosmic encounter.
Prior sponsors of “Zaturnah” included Switzerland’s Vision Sud Est, the Philippines’ ICOF, and South Korea’s BiFan. Additionally, it was presented at the TAICCA, BiFan, Locarno, and Venice Bridge project market events.
The Philippines’ version of the Argentine romantic comedy “Un Novio Para Mi Mujer,” “Everything About My Wife,” is currently in post-production and will star Dennis Trillo, Jennylyn Mercado (“Rosario,” “English Only Please”), and Sam Milby (“No Other Woman”).
In “Everything,” a man stuck in an unhappy marriage finds an unusual way out. To get rid of his wife’s incessant whining, he enlists the aid of the town’s Casanova to woo her.
In the company’s horror film “Ghost Party,” a woman returns to her small provincial village only to find that everyone there is engaged in a deadly game that is taking lives.
Chito Roño is directing the picture, which is set to begin production in July. Enrico Santos wrote the script, which is based on the story of “Rewind,” the highest-grossing film in the Philippines. Roño is also successful at the film office, having hits like “Feng Shui” and “Sukob.”
