Seven years have passed since the previous “Pirates of the Caribbean” film debuted in theatres. And it does seem as though a new movie in the series is on the way. Two films are actually under development, and both may end up on screen. Sadly, you’re out of luck if you’re a fan of Johnny Depp.
Producer Jerry Bruckheimer was interviewed by EW recently, and during the discussion, the director discussed the present status of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” property. In other words, he teased a lot of what he could say but didn’t reveal any concrete news.
Basically, it’s quite easy. Currently, two “Pirates” movies are being developed. One is the spinoff movie starring Margot Robbie, which is reportedly still in production. Of the two, it appears that the latter is the one that is more likely to happen. The second is a true relaunch of the brand, written by Jeff Nathanson, who penned the next film, “The Young Woman and the Sea.”
“It’s two distinct films,” Bruckheimer clarified. “We intend to produce them both, and I believe Disney concurs that they truly want to produce the Margot one as well.”
Regarding the second picture, Bruckheimer continued, “I believe [Jeff Nathanson has] hit the mark. His third act is fantastic. All we need to do is tidy up the first and second, and we will succeed. But his third act is a very, really good one.
As previously said, it’s unlikely that Johnny Depp will appear in any of the movies. But Bruckheimer says that’s not because they didn’t try.
Bruckheimer stated, “It’s a reboot, but if it were up to me, he would be in it.” “I cherish him.” He is a trustworthy companion. He has a distinct style and is an incredible artist.
In summary, two “Pirates” movies are being developed, and it’s possible that both will eventually be released. The reboot appears to have the most chance of happening, but the studio is still very much interested in a Margot Robbie movie. (It helps that Robbie’s “Barbie” is the biggest movie of 2023.) When will we be able to view one or the other of them? We still don’t know that much.
