At the Cannes Market, Sean Cronin’s Magnificent Films Unveils a Brace of Vampire Projects

“Drained,” the newest feature film from British directors Sean Cronin and Peter Stylianou, is being marketed at the Cannes Film Market by Cronin’s Magnificent Films after post-production is complete.

In addition to directing a number of films, Cronin is an actor who has starred in Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. He has also portrayed villains in about 89 different motion pictures.

Co-directed and produced by Cronin and Stylianou from a script by Stylianou, the vampire movie “Drained” centres on Thomas, an unemployed post-graduate artist, who develops feelings for Rhea, an enigmatic woman who turns out to be a vampire. Thomas’s condition deteriorates as their sinister affair develops, sending him into a wild spiral.

Ruaridh Aldington (“Dirty Boy”) and Madalina Bellariu Ion (“Dampyr”) play the tragic lovers in the show. Craig Conway (“Dog Soldiers”), Diana Yekinni, Ayvianna Snow, Kenton Lloyd Morgan, Andrew Lyle-Pinnock, Natasha Patel (“The Witcher: Blood Origin”), Andrew Lee Potts (“Band of Brothers”), Matteo Pasquini (“Return to Silent Hill”), and Timothy Blore all play supporting roles.

The London-based film “Drained” was produced in cooperation with Magnificent Films, House 54, and Red Guerilla Films. Tony Currier and Daniel Patrick Vaughan are also producers.

According to Cronin, “Drained” is a blend of beauty and gloom, with a neon-noir style that alludes to the seedy underside of London. Comparing the film’s soundtrack to the synth-heavy sounds of “Drive,” he says it aims for a harmony between involvement and atmosphere. Beyond the vampire romance, Stylianou continues, the movie examines the addictive character of contemporary society, drawing connections between Thomas’s relationship with Rhea and other socially and self-destructively destructive tendencies.

In the meantime, Cronin’s “Bogieville,” which debuted at the Fantastic Pavillion in Cannes, is also being offered for sale at the market. The picture, which was directed by Cronin from a scenario by Henry P. Gravelle, centres on a young couple named Ham and Jody who discover vampires in an unsettling American trailer park after meeting a menacing caretaker there. The cast is led by rising actress Arifin Putra from Indonesia and rookie Eloise Lovell Anderson; Cronin plays Madison, the head vampire.

Along with Cronin for Magnificent, Djonny Chen for Silent D Pictures is producing the movie.

Cronin emphasises the difficulties of filming in chilly, wet Surrey to resemble a southern American town. Cronin directed a large portion of the movie while wearing full vampire makeup.

Instant Entertainment’s Philippe Ashfield is handling the films’ publicity.
