“Mothers’ Instinct” is slated for theatrical release in China.

Chinese theatres will open “Mothers’ Instinct,” the psychological thriller starring Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain.

The 1960s movie, which was directed by Benoît Delhomme, a former cameraman turned director, shows two ideal homemakers and next-door neighbours whose intimate friendship is profoundly damaged by an unexpected catastrophe. The movie is an English-language remake of Olivier Masset-Depasse’s 2010 French-language film, which was based on Barbara Abel’s 2012 novel “Derriere La Haine.”

On May 24, the movie will open on 2,500 theatres in China. Variety has revealed that it will most likely compete with “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare,” another English-language film that is out on same date.
The movie has already received a few foreign distributions, and Neon will release it in North America at a later date. A deal between Chinese distributor JL Film and sales company Anton Corp. led to the release in China.
“La La Land” was previously scheduled for a rerelease by JL Film at the end of 2023. JL Film produced “Life Is Beautiful,” “Wrath of Man,” and “Knives Out” in 2022. Currently, it is in charge of the release of the concert documentary “Ryuichi Sakamoto|Opus,” which is scheduled for the end of May.

The theatrical group refers to “Mothers’ Instinct” as a “gem,” claiming that its compelling story and potent performances would “tug at heartstrings and enthral audiences.”
